  2. A father-son pilgrimage to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. -- Poet Donald Hall wrote in his essay Fathers Playing Catch With Sons that "baseball is continuous, like nothing else among American things, an endless game of repeated summers, joining the long generations of all the fathers and all the sons."

  3. New York wine country: Sips and scenery in the Finger Lakes

Two million years ago, glaciers clawed 11 long, deep gashes into what is now central New York. The resulting Finger Lakes are among the deepest in the United States, creating a microclimate perfect for growing cool-weather wine grapes.

Another of the lakes is the Keuka Lake, around which the Keuka Holidays I and II are held Nov. 11-12 and Nov. 18-19.
